In self-suspension, a single person takes the role of rigger and rope bottom, allowing for an autonomous experience in the air. While similar in some regards to partnered suspension, self-suspension presents unique challenges and opportunities. This introductory-level class is intended for people with some experience tying rope, but little to no experience self-suspending. We will learn basic body harnesses, hangers, and upline techniques, which are the building blocks for suspension. Students will then be guided through a basic face-up self-suspension with options for transitions in the air. Throughout this intensive, we will go over the risks involved in self-suspension and the measures we can take to mitigate these risks.

Teacher Bio
Qatherine (she/her) is a Boston-based rope lover and passionate self-suspender. With a background in ballet and aerial circus arts, Qatherine seeks to explore the sensations and physicality of rope, and has a deep, unabiding love of inversions. In self-suspension, Qatherine enjoys dynamic movement and pushing her body, as well as adapting traditionally partnered suspension sequences to solo acts. Outside of the rope community, Qatherine satisfies her cravings for airtime through aerial silks and corde lisse.

- The class is a casual event, so please wear what you feel comfortable in. For models tight fitting clothes or just not much clothing is the easiest to tie in. For riggers, make sure your clothing does not restrict your mobility in any way.
- We suggest you to be barefoot or wear shoes on the dance floor to prevent slipping (not just socks).
